Web of Roses

Several of the main fashion weeks passed us by in last month or so, which brought extravagance, drama and high style.  One genre in particular that was full of glamor and feminine shine, prints and graphics was the Spring 2014 Menswear runway shows.  Yes, the S14 menswear season mirrors inspiration from womens ready-to-wear, where one can see similar trends sprinkled throughout the Resort 2014 collections.  Of note are floral motifs that pattern jackets, pants and shorts alike in subtle brocade fabrics to all-over prints.  Also seen complimenting a variety of manly silhouettes is a dynamic variation to delicate lace, seen in webbing.  Whole outfits and single garments within a coordinated outfits sport knit webbing and geometric prints creating a web design.

Style.com has a thorough catalog of the majority of designers showing at these events with photo galleries by collection.  Here is seen complex filigree brocade work creating a web-like effect and rose shapes made from actual knit webbing (note the shoes as well!) from the Alexander McQueen show:

Staying away from the floral motif, Lanvin uses a diagonal windowpane mesh in his slim shouldered tank creating a clean mono-tone web that contrast the small-scale organic black and white mesh-like pattern on the pants.

Fading of a classic pattern

Houndstooth in all colors and sizes has been trending for the past few years, but Reem Acra has thrown a fresh spin at this ubiquitous notion.  This suit from the brand’s Fall 2012 line has houndstooth bold on the lapels and then fading in and out on the body.  Also note the hint of a partial tonal plaid on the skirt.

Thakoon uses a similar look for faded zig zags in this tonal patterned sweater.
